I
get asked all the time how Dave's Automotive came to be. So, for the
record, here goes.
Dave Steffens Automotive was born out of Highway 8 Shell. In 1961 as a
young Dunwoody student, and living in the area (Dave grew-up on 19th
and Benjamin) Dave started working as the evening mechanic. In 1965
Dave went on active duty in the mandatory military draft. He returned
in the fall of 1967 to find an abandoned and boarded up Shell station.
Dave searched and found the owner, then convinced him to rent the
repair stalls. Dave's Automotive was born. In 1969 Dave bought the
building and over the years expanded it from the existing 2 service
stalls to the 7 stalls and the second story office & lounge it is
today.
Dennis Lindboe met Dave Steffens back in 1988 when Dave used to buy
gas from him at the old Mobile station that was next to the Dairy
Queen in St. Anthony.
Over the years, Dennis was impressed with the fantastic reputation
that Dave Steffens Automotive had.
During the summer of 2002, Dennis and Dave met on several occasions to
discuss Dennis becoming the General Manager. During these meetings a
very rough plan emerged for Dennis to buy the business from Dave.
In
January of 2004 Dave and Dennis started to finalize plans for the
purchase of the business.
On
May 1st, 2004 Dennis became the new owner of Dave Steffens Automotive.
Well, there you have it, 40 plus years on the same corner, meeting
people and fixing their cars. Thank you!
In
May 2008 after an extensive search for the right fit, Dennis purchased
Conway Auto Clinic at 2545 Conway Ave. E. in Maplewood MN. Curt
Bucholz the lead Tech at the Minneapolis store was promoted to General
Manager and is running the Maplewood store.
